The process of ABS thermoforming
Release Date:
2020-06-18
With the advancement of technology, thermoforming processes have become increasingly sophisticated, driving the widespread adoption of thermoformed plastic sheet products. Consequently, ABS sheets are also experiencing a resurgence. ABS thermoforming processing It is used in industries such as automotive branding, advertising signage, and the manufacturing of plastic light boxes. Today, we’ll walk you through it. ABS thermoforming processing The process.
ABS thermoforming processing The production process is roughly as follows:
Sheet processing—cutting—sheet fixing—heating—forming—demolding—edge trimming—finished product
Since ABS plastic must be molded under specific conditions, successful thermoforming of ABS requires adherence to certain processing parameters, as outlined below.
1.ABS Blow molding can only produce products with relatively uniform wall thickness and is unable to manufacture plastic parts with significant variations in wall thickness.
2.ABS The wall thickness of vacuum-formed parts typically ranges from 1 to 2 mm, or even thinner.
3.ABS The stretchability of thermoformed products is limited; the diameter-to-depth ratio of thermoformed plastic containers should not exceed 1, and in extreme cases, should not exceed 1.5.
4.ABS Thermoforming exhibits poor dimensional accuracy, with typical relative errors exceeding 1%.

ABS thermoforming processing Production process:
I. Board Material Treatment
In the initial stage, ABS sheets must be subjected to high-temperature treatment; otherwise, if the moisture within the material is not evaporated, the thermoformed product may develop numerous bubbles.
II. Cutting
ABS thermoforming processing The entire ABS sheet must be appropriately cut according to the customer’s dimensional requirements, thereby optimizing material utilization and reducing production costs.
3. Sheet fixation + heating + forming + demolding:
ABS Blow molding involves securing an ABS sheet in a semi‑automatic thermoforming machine and then placing it into the oven to heat until it softens. The heated sheet is drawn over the product mold; as the mold is lifted, a vacuum is applied, pulling the softened ABS onto the mold surface. Once the part has cooled and solidified, coolant is sprayed onto the mold’s surface to facilitate demolding. At this point, the ABS blow‑molded part is essentially complete.
Molded ABS thermoformed products are widely used across industries such as electronics, electrical appliances, food packaging, hardware tools, cosmetics, toys, pharmaceuticals, automotive, and stationery.
